World Cup Team of the Day

Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg (Country: Netherlands, Match: Netherlands 2-1 Slovakia)
Untested for most of the match, he was alert and made two crucial saves to prevent his side from conceeding any goals; a close-range shot from Robert Vittek and Miroslav Stoch's attempt from the edge of the box.

Defence
Juan (Country: Brazil, Match: Brazil 3-0 Chile)
His aerial prowess earned him a goal, and he made gritty defensive displays as well to shut out the Chilean attackers.
Lucio (Country: Brazil, Match: Brazil 3-0 Chile)
Lucio asserted himself well at the backline and moving forward he was a strong force to contend with.
Jan Durica (Country: Slovakia, Match: Slovakia 1-2 Netherlands)
The tidy tackler stuck his foot in on several occassions to cut out precarious situations.
Gregory Van der Weil (Country: Netherlands, Match: Netherlands 2-1 Slovakia)
He took a while to warm up but portrayed defensive resilience for the rest of the match. The 22-year-old certainly has the potential to become a rising star with Arsenal hot on his heels.
Midfield
Jorge Valdivia (Country:Chile, Match Chile 0-3 Brazil)
Valdivia came in for the second half and shone while he was on the pitch. His shot was lifted over the crossbar in an unfortunate attempt.
Wesley Sneijder (Country: Netherlands, Match: Netherlands 2-1 Slovakia)
His patient passing game found Arjen Robben for the opening goal, and he scored the second with a firm finish. A key player from the Dutch side.
Ramires (Country: Brazil, Match: Brazil 3-0 Chile)
Ramires unleashed powerful attempts, made hard tackles, and contributed to the third goal aiding Robinho.
Forward
Arjen Robben(Country: Netherlands, Match: Netherlands 2-1 Slovakia)
A very much welcome presence back on the pitch, he moved in from the right for the opener. He was a thorn in the flesh for the Slovakian defence with his versatility and speed.
Kaka (Country: Brazil, Match: Brazil 3-0 Chile)
His raw competitiveness got him a yellow which was unnecessary after a match suspension. Nonetheless an excellent performance from the Real Madrid man, setting up a pass for Luis Fabiano to net.
Robinho (Country: Brazil, Match: Brazil 3-0 Chile)
A calm and cool finish for the third goal sent his camp ecstatic and through to the quarter fianls.
